Really good! Every last one of these characters has my heart! Definitely encountered a learning curve but every chapter was easier to understand and only increased my love of the book!

Beautiful world, so many intricate features and species. The shifting perspectives take some getting used to. I absolutely loved it. I chose to read these in chronological order, so this is the first Valdemar book I've read.

This is the first book of the Valdemar series - chronologically. It's good as far as introducing the beginning of things, but I found it a bit slow. It seemed to drag out some things that might have been better if they'd been moved along a little faster. However, it was a great introduction and I am looking forward to continuing on with the series.

This was written after a good chunk of the Valdemar universe was established. Here, we finally get the back story of the mage wars and some of the more famous names of we’ve heard. It’s enjoyable, though not as strong of a story as some of the others.
