An elementary English teacher first introduced me to Bunnicula. I then searched the school library and was excited to find there were more books in the series! Many moons later I still enjoy reading it again from time to time. As an autumn soul who loves all things spooky the nostalgia of an easy childhood favorite is a welcome reprieve. Also the perfect series for Easterween to mark halfway to Halloween!

I was looking for a short, lighter book and this was on hand. It was fun to read about what happens at the pet boarding when the humans go on vacation. I must say this was a very dramatic stay, but Harold and Chester seem to be surrounded by it. I had a feeling
Spoiler that Harrison was stealing the dogs for some reason, but I wasn't sure why. Also the puppies sounded so cute.
Again I loved reading about the stereotypical animals and this time there was a quirky mix of cats and dogs.

This felt a little more mature than Bunnicula, but it's still a good kids book. Also, all the book references are fun for adults.  I'm enjoying the series so far.

"Harold and Chester could hardly believe it. The Monroe family was going on vacation without them! Bunnicula, the family rabbit, would be boarded with a neighbor. But they, the family's loyal dog and cat, were to stay with strangers at the foreboding Chateau Bow-Wow...

No sooner had Harold and Chester settled into their bungalows than Louise, a French poodle involved in a messy love triangle, disappeared. Chester believed the six other guests were capable of anything -- even murder. Would you trust a pair of dachshunds who howled at the moon and were rumored to be part werewolf? Or crazy Lyle, a cat convinced he was a secret agent?

All Harold and Chester knew was that in spite of themselves they had entered the crime detection business and neither foul play nor foul weather would stop them from finding out whodunit!" (From Amazon)

It is just as good as the first.

This year I decided to include Howliday Inn, the second in the Bunnicula series, in my Halloween reading. I have a clear memory of reading this one when I was in elementary school and LOVING it. But I’ve never read it as an adult, and I couldn’t remember what happened in the story. I was curious about why I loved this book so much, since it was a foundation experience for me as a reader. And it turns out Howliday Inn is a cozy mystery, one of my favorite genres. There’s a murder at a pet hotel, and Chester the cat becomes an amateur sleuth, ready to solve the crime. I think this is the first cozy mystery I ever read, and I love that young-me loved the experience just as much as adult-me does.
