I think I’ve found a new favorite author in Elizabeth McKenzie. This book made me laugh out loud (literally!) several times. Similar to The Portable Veblen, it follows a 30-something women who finds herself adrift. But Penny is a different heroine from Veblen and the cast of side characters here is delightful. Highly recommend!

A surprisingly entertaining romp through a couple weeks in the life of a girl from a highly dysfunctional family. Hilarious!

I really liked this, just didn't love it. It was funny, but it seemed like it was trying to be quirky and off-beat, and just missed the mark. I love a humorous travel narrative; however, this is not Anne Tyler. It was just okay.

Definitely the quirkiest book I’ve read in a long time. I was ultimately charmed by its weirdness, equal parts frustrated by and empathetic towards its hapless protagonist. Loved the immediacy of the relationships it portrayed. Overall I really enjoyed this one!
