Assignment for one of my internships. Don't really know how it made it to publication in its current form, but it was a good story. Prose was simply subpar, boring, and didn't lead to any emotional resonance. Plot over emotion all the way. If you like nothing but dry retellings of criminal justice/youth detention, I guess this is the book for you.
