This was fun to read and see where some of the episodes of the TV show came from. Also it was interesting to see the similarities and differences between the two story universes.

I remember the day I picked up Hellblazer for the first time and what I felt at the time.. Nothing has changed; this is an amazing introduction to the series and the character, and I'm still as in love with Constantine as I've always been.

So fehlt mir jeglicher Hintergrund.

The fact that so many of these reviews say something along the lines of "It's not as good as the movie!" or "Too much political commentary and the art is dated!" just goes to show that some people - comic book readers in particular - are interested solely in watching entertainment with eyes glazed over. Others are more interested in learning something and seeking literary substance. Most comics merely provide the former, so just let us have a few intelligent comics without complaining that they wouldn't make a good movie!

Phew. Enough of that rant. This wasn't the best volume of Delano's run (see [b:Hellblazer, Vol. 4: The Family Man|13536298|Hellblazer, Vol. 4 The Family Man (Hellblazer New Edition, #4)|Jamie Delano|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347585482s/13536298.jpg|40017942] or [b:Hellblazer, Vol. 3: The Fear Machine|13228111|Hellblazer, Vol. 3 The Fear Machine (Hellblazer New Edition, # 3)|Jamie Delano|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1342415620s/13228111.jpg|40017862]) but it still struck me as far superior to most mainstream comics.

PS - Anyone who thinks Keanu Reeves' portrayal of John Constantine was better than the original Sting look-alike of the comic has no room to complain that the colourist sometimes changed his eyes from blue to green.

One of the first things I wanted to do after finishing the full 300+ run of Hellblazer was to go back to the beginning to see how much the character had changed. Looking back, it’s actually pretty amazing how consistent the character remains and how much is set up in Delano’s run.
