I thought the first almost 70% was unbearably dull, superficial, and predictable. The ending, however, redeemed it pretty well. Still not a big fan.

This book was brought to me by one of my 6th graders who is an avid reader. She gave it to me begging me to read it and has asked about it every day since

So sweet. Isiah’s story is about growing up, found family, finding yourself, finding your original family- and recognizing that the only thing we have in common is that we are all different. Five big hearted stars.

My second graders were obsessed with this story. I used it as a read aloud in the classroom. There were so many times where they would ask "just one more page?" (And we would end up late to specials!) My only hesitation was chapter 58. It took a random "church" turn. This was ONLY a problem because I teach in a public school (I need to make that clear.) I skipped the chapter, went directly to the epilogue and no one was the wiser. It's a great story about accepting diversity in others, being brave, and the importance of looking out for your friends and family. I will definitely be visiting this book again in the future!
