I love the content of the volume more than volume 1, but the storyline break at 96-97 is less enticing towards volume 3.
Still, 48 marvelous issues of one of the best superhero comic books ever later, you won't catch me complaining.
Mark grows and struggles in new and profound ways. The Invincible War brought suffering and challenge at a global scale.
The Viltrumite War does a doozy on the state on the galaxy and several friendships we've grown to care about.
Hard, controversial choices are made and Kirkman speaks to economic, ecological, and social issues of our day.
Robot and Monster Girl get a long arc explaining what happened and why. Just incredible storytelling.
It's all just excellent.
I don't know if they (Marvel, DC, Image, Darkhorse, etc.) still write em like this - long-form, deliberate, humorous without being cheap or cheeky, emotional, complex and mature - but these are great books you owe to yourself to read of you've read volume 1 or appreciate comic book storytelling.

I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first (likely bc the show had spoiled all the events of the first), but I'm trying not to let that affect my rating
The character and relationship development in these volumes is genuinely better than in the previous one (by which I mean it's alright rather than bad-mediocre), though the pacing continues to be an issue (suspense who?)
There are (as expected) more references to characters from the wider universe, but they feature in ways that don't require actual background reading, so this series continues to be my best rec for first time superhero comic readers
The male gaze still is Out Here, though the actual misogynistic (+ queerphobic etc) content has lessened

Full disclosure I don’t read that many comic books so I don’t have a ton of reference points but I still am enjoying Invincible. This middle section has some tropes, comments, and minor plot lines that make me roll my eyes but overall I am still enjoying it.
