Kaneki made it back to Anteiku after his ordeal at the restaurant with the Gourmet. Kimi rushes to him because she is desperate for help with Nishio, but as Kaneki promises her to look into it and she sets to go back home she is kidnapped by Shuu. Kaneki and Nishio set to rescue her. This is a part I remember clearly from the anime, and it hurts just as much, if not more, reading it.
"Low quality sustenance will result in proportionate performance."
Touka got a hint of what happened and went to help Ken. She and Kaneki work together to save Kimi, and they find an awesome hack which they hope will help them to beat Tsukiyama. It is beautiful to see that, even in such a macabre story, love and friendship can prevail.
In this book we also get a nice side story dedicated to Rize, and find out why she went from the 11th ward to the 20th ward and got to know Ken. And we also get a sneak peak at Juzo Suzuya, a rank 3 CCG investigator. And he/she? is so... well, let's just call it awkwardly special.
In the 5th book the story really gives you several POV's, so you get to know more about the current situation as well as the past. There is gore, but it is not over the top, and it complements the story nicely.
Yet again, really enjoyed this 5th book, almost halfway through the collection, and I look forward to reading book 6.

An exciting volume with conclusion to the Gourmet Arc (THANKFULLY), we get some backstory on characters (including the scary Rize), and there are tons of fighting and I love seeing Kaneki getting stronger and stronger. I wasn't such a fan of the parts with the investigators in between, however what happens in the end.. I am curious now.
