I loved that the fictional universe was comparable to ours in many of the ways women were oppressed. Also loved the re-imagining of the fairy godmother

On the other hand, the plot and narrative was flat. The characters all felt oblivious and stupid. And everything was told extremely explicitly

I liked the concept if this book a lot and I think it had great potential. I do not think it hold up though.

<spoiler>
I felt like the target audience was unclear. From one hand, the dialog was often cringey and childish, the metaphor and moral of the story spoon fed to the reader and the characters flat and unchanging. On the other hand some topics handled in the story are very much intended for mathur readers.
At times it felt like the writing was trying to be shocking and edgy but it just looked out of place.

The love intrest was dull and cartoonish in her behavior and odd facial expressions. Ever since Liv's body was found by Sophia the king plot twist was extremely predictable.

Sophia is a mediocre but loveble protagonist. Her motivations are clear and understandable but she did not changed at all in the duration of the story.

Honesty, I shipped her with Erin till the end because I thing it would made more compelling story.

Prince charmin was a flat and exaggerated villan but he was also pretty menacing (at least in the first half of the book).

Amana was the best character in my opinion. She was compelling and intriguin until her very end

Over all, I did mostly enjoyed the read. I thing maybe the book was intended for younger readers and it have great messages over all.

The book has it ups and downs.
it's very perfect for someone who is just getting into books too not long, easy, and well written

I like how it explore sofia flaws too like how impulsive she can be and be emotion driven.. well many will say her emotional driven is good. its not.

i like Constance too she may be impulsive like trying to stab everyone except sofia.

i like when they went to the woods to meet the "fairy godmother"

I was about 55% in when I quit. While it is fast paced, I just didn’t feel gripped enough to the characters or plot. The world building is immaculate though. I think the amount of abuse throughout it all wore me down as a survivor, even though I appreciate stories that talk on it (and especially are sapphic like myself). Honestly there’s only so many “we need to tear down the government and society” books I can do so I think I will return to this in a few months. It’s still 100% worth try.

This was really good! It was hard-hitting, really packed a punch, but Sophia was an amazing main character, I absolutely adored her to pieces. I was also a huge fan of what Bayron did with the Cinderella story and what little twists and turns she put on it. That was pretty cool. The only thing I'm a bit meh about is the romance; I felt like the romantic development between the two characters could've been better. Though I loved the things Sophia had to say about being a queer girl in a world like hers - or ours too, I guess.
