A solid read, but not really one that I think I’ll remember 6 months from now. Some of the individual story beats are excellent, and I appreciate tying the prequel and New Hope versions together, but the standalone nature of each of the tales robs the collection of an epic feeling, instead focusing on quiet and contemplative. The art is… present. It’s not bad, but it’s also not great. It does the job.

I have loved the character of Obi Wan since I was little and have loved all the depth that has been added to his character the last several years.  This novel/comic does justice to his character and adds episodes that bring greater understanding to his life. One of the qualities I love about Obi Wan is that despite the darkness he has seen and been through he still has the ability to hope.  To hope that despite the darkness there is still good in people and the universe.  Great comic.

A Jedi's Purpose reads like Obi-Wan Kenobi's reminisce of days long gone during his Tatooine exile. In a series of five consecutive flashbacks we witness his momentous journey from one among countless Jedi younglings to legendary padwan and then warrior-general of the Republic during the clone wars. Ultimately, his redemption in the form of raising Luke Skywalker to combat the empire's darkness.

I love Obi-Wan, so I was bound to appreciate this. It’s not my favourite stories of his, but I liked how the different issues followed the same themes and threads.

The “hello, there” will always be iconic. And I loved seeing my boy Anakin in there. It was really nice to see the layers of Obi-swan worrying about him because of the war and Anakin worrying about killing someone outside a battlefield again.
