Beautiful illustrations, and a great chance to talk to my 2 year old about emotions, when she wanted to know why someone didn't just cuddle Jessie to sleep straight away. After a few reads, she was pretty certain Jessie was "lonely", her sister was "angry" and that all Jess needed was "a cuddle".
I don't think it's a good message to send that an older sibling should basically have the respnosiblity of the younger one, nor would it be fair to leave a screaming child in their room. I thought the parents needed to take a really long look at themselves.
I guess I just have a very different parenting philosophy than this book. It probably also affected me negatively, because that's exactly what happened when my sister wasa baby. She shared my room and my mum insisted on letting her cry unless I made a massive fuss. I did exactly what the older sister did here. But all the book did was highlight how unfair that was.
Regardless, the ending is sweet, and the pictures are beautiful. But I hope I never have to read it to my book obsessed toddler again.
