The slow start and the long chapters almost made me DNF but I’m glad I didn’t. I switched to the audiobook and that pulled me into the store. I liked the multiple POV and time periods to see the connection between the characters. I like that the focus was on a Black woman building a legacy. Also good queer rep. The ending felt rushed but overall a good read, definitely recommend the audiobook!

This was a nice book to read. I could see it's eventually turned into a movie. It started off kind of slow. The storyline moved back and forth between three generations of Blackwood women, Flossie, Blossom, and the younger generation, Ardith and Hollis. Each generation was more successful in Hollywood than the previous. The storyline also included a family secret. However, it wasn't anything that was earth-shattering. Without giving too many details, I agree with the decisions that Blossom made to enhance her opportunity to make it in Black Hollywood. I also enjoyed that the storyline touched on the adversity that African American actors had to overcome when trying to find roles in Black Hollywood.
