2nd re-listen. Dropping my rating from 4 stars to 3.

Narration: 4 stars
Story: 3 stars
Overall: 3.5 stars, rounding down

Cardeno C is a hit or miss author for me, with her hits being dead center amazing and her misses being DNFs. Mary Calmes was a favorite author for a lot of years and a must read but recently I think I've outgrown her. Not that I don't give her books a try but it's gotten hard to find ones that I love.

Anyway I remember how much I liked this when I first read it and then listened to it, but now, now the story felt disjointed from one chapter to the next. Like it was following an outline of things that were to happen in each chapter and the connection between them, especially since the chapters alternated POVs, didn't really matter. Vy and Robert had an incredible connection and chemistry but the miscommunication, the half talks, the jumping the gun, the melodrama could have you checking out of the story even if you were paying attention.

Love me some Greg Tremblay and it's always a treat to listen to him narrating smex.

I hate that I didn't love this book since I love Mary Calmes and Cardeno C. I didn't hate the story, but I greatly disliked one of the MCs Vy. He's the kuar of his hawk ket, and he had some ego issues at the beginning. If I was Robert, I would have told him where he could go with his attitude. Vy's attitude got better, sort of, through the book, but he was constantly jumping to conclusions instead of talking to Robert, and then he'd get pissy and try to push Robert away. Lucky for Vy, Robert was very patient and kind and didn't let him do it. Vy came across as immature and obnoxious, and I don't see how he could ever be the leader of his ket.

My usual shifter stories are about wolves so this was interesting. I really like how the bear characteristics were used in the story to explain Robert's reluctance to shift. Vy was a mess. Although he was the kuar I don't think he really understood how to lead until Robert came into his life. I'm surprised his dad didn't take him more under his wing and show him how to be a better leader. I love fated mates and because Robert didn't recognize his mate at first this made for a very interesting story. I really enjoyed it.

Loved it!
NB: I know it's narrated by Greg Tremblay and I could hear him but in the same time it didn't totally sound like him. Maybe it's because the audio is almost 10 years old, idk. His narration was still great but he seemed more subdued.

Still as good as I thought it was!

These two authors together are amazing. A wonderful paranormal M/M story. In depth main characters that I loved, plus some great side characters. This book was a page turner all the way.

I was recommended this book as a great read and it, unfortunately, disappointed me on many accounts. Primarily, by the writing. I could tell which parts were written by whom and even though it is a great thing to give two POVs their own distinctive voices, I also feel that the book lacked smoothness and the writing was a bit jumpy. I liked some small parts, but mostly I was just rolling my eyes. By all accounts i is a 2 star read at best, but I did like the idea of non-wolf shifters plus the cover is pretty.

Can't recommend, though. Sorry.

I remember liking this when I first read it. I'm not sure why that was after reading it the 2nd time. Maybe it was because I was still newish to reading M/M romance and what was on offer from my library was still pretty limited.

Annoying main character who jumps to conclusions and runs off into danger and makes assumptions about other people's intentions without just fucking talking to people? I have no energy to give a damn about you.
