This is one star away from making it onto my Personal Favourites list. Yes, there are editing and grammar issues that should have been dealt with, but the story is good enough that I found it easy to read past and over these issues.

The narrative is very poignant in places, touching on chords of sorrow and loss, and the responsibility that goes hand in glove with being powerful and different. Each character's origin story is related differently, according to the personality of the young person. I particularly enjoyed Emily's conversation with her mother as she is discovering her ability to 'bubble float' cars. I was a bit frustrated at the omission of the ages of the characters, and I found it difficult to relate behaviours with ages.

The story is peppered with strong hints about Doc Silence's story, and I am really, really hoping that the author does a spinoff

I was so surprised with the theme of this books since I don't usually find in fantasy many books about superheroes. It definitely got my attention. Each character is so unique and individual, humanly flawed and taunted by their powers in some way. I loved every bit and can't wait to read more and know what will happen to this unique family of superheroes.

Good one this, but not perfect

Plot is without any major holes, twisty and interesting.
World building is a vanilla sketch standard 1a, but the vagueness mean no strangeness at least.
The powers are varied, but the full creative potential is never displayed.
The group dynamic and banter is good and actually touching in places.
The prose is ... adequate, it is more of describing a story than writing one id you see what I mean. There is no passion in it.
