Having spent the last few hours in the bath, reading this strange little book, I would definitely recommend it. For anyone tired of this world, and wanting to be transported into an odd, surreal one that is far more tender than you expect while also being cruel, read this book. It is a cathartic tale, bittersweet and bizarre and never boring.

A poetic fairy tale. Lots of room for interpretation, but I had a lot of fun reading it on the surface.

I liked the mix of mammal, fish & bird, and of fire & lake, and of worship, purpose & law. There’s a strong revolutionary impulse, and an equally nice reflection on commitment.

For a long time, I sat with this line:

Time stretched backward as an accumulation of terrors.

Amusing, cranky, and weird.
