Alastair Reynolds is a master of melding scientific wonder with human nature. I enjoyed each one of these short stories.

He writes some really out-there stuff. It tends to be hit or miss as to whether or not I like his short stories. And even some of the most compelling stories have disappointing endings. But they are worth it just for the ideas.
