a classic

All should read this cautionary tale of not judging people by our perceptions of them. We must reserve judgment until we have all information available.

A fantastical fable set in the early days of England's entry into the "New World." Full of romance, passion, vengeance, hypocrisy, revelation, and maybe even redemption...

Slow paced, very descriptive book. I appreciated the mistery of the plot and the misticism that the characters are surrounded by, that fits very well with the religious colonial society and the importance that they give it. I found pear’l character the most interesting and likeable. However I found the descriptions too long and tiring and the pace to be too slow for me. As a result, I took a very long time to finish this book.

I really liked the meat and potatoes of the story, but the book itself was far too wordy. The story could easily have been told in 3 or 4 chapters.
