I was a bit tired of the epic books that were Kushiel's Dart and Kushiel's Chosen but I slogged on. I was excited to read the book, don't get me wrong, but they are epics.
This is the most sophisticated of them all with the introduction of Imriel and definitely the darkest. There were scenes that made me cry for the characters and the pain they were enduring. I love the characters and I dragged my heels a bit as I was reading knowing that their story was coming to an end.

This book only gets 4 stars for me because the end scenes involving the Master of the Straits didn't rivet me. Sure, the end was great but it was a bit of a let down with all the emotion of the journey that came before the conclusion.

I'll be reading the next trilogy soon. I miss them all too much not to.

Carey's epic tale of Phèdre has tugged and pulled on every emotion I had. I felt a connection to a character whose every moment and feeling, I understood. Kushiel's Avatar does a fantastic job setting an end to Phèdre's story. I highly recommend reading this trilogy. It's the kind of read too difficult to step away from. Just an abundance of brilliant characters who you can't help but love and empathize with.
