Wow, this was sure a ride. Based on where this started, I couldn't have imagined where it ended up. I got deeply invested in almost every character and excited to see them grow and change, and the worldbuilding was second to none.

That said,
SpoilerI'm all for going dark and not giving characters a happy ending and not making everything neat and tidy, but there's a bit of a gap between that and where this went, which felt very unfinished. I was actually very surprised to learn that there was no sequel in the works, because it was basically a cliffhanger and none of the characters got a satisfying resolution. I really wish everything that happened had mattered more, because so much of it was so deeply unique and cool.

Absolutely loved this book! It's so different from other (urban)fantasy books I've read!

This one was a difficult read for me. It went in so many directions that I had a hard time following along. The initial story about Ingelbad was amazing and I was dying to know what happened to him and his djinn friend but it kept moving away from his story. There was also a lot of problematic language and slurs that were just tossed in willy-nilly.

I finished this last night and couldn't write a review. My mouth was just open. The whole book was SO good. I enjoyed it very much...and then the book ended. There was zero conclusion. The author hit his page count and just said "Oh. Okay. This is done now.".
I'm furious. This is my second book by this author and second time rating at a 3 or lower. I don't think I will continue reading his books.

Odd but very imaginative, graphic descriptions at times that were uncomfortable. Very good world building
