A. N. Homes wrote one of the most disturbing novels, I think, of all time-- one that takes you into the mind of two pedophiles and shows you their world and strange, sick logic. It is not for the faint of heart, not for the weak of spirit, and not for those who want to see a pedophile condemned.

It isn't five stars sheerly for the subject matter, and that's the same reason I write this review -- to warn those who might read this, not knowing what they're going to get into. I don't really feel like glorifying a work wrapped around a pedophile's life or the empathy one can find with him. Still, the writing was sound, the book engrossing -- much like a trainwreck is.

Just… shocking. Trying to be something and failing. It has nothing to say, it is just purely gratuitous and disgusting

Not entirely sure how to sum up this book. It was an interesting read, and i think the writing was very well done, but the ending left a lot of loose ends that i think could have been explored more.

The final chapter was especially disturbing to me, and there were many scenes that made me feel very icky, so this certainly isn’t a book for the faint hearted and definitely check trigger warnings before picking this up because it gets very heavy very quickly.

Unreadable

Subject matter aside, this book is unreadable. The absolute walls of meandering, nonsensical text. Paragraphs upon paragraphs of endlessly wordy descriptions. It’s Margaret Mitchell meets the horror genre.

This book was written with a thesaurus in one hand and, well, you can guess what was in the other. Nothing of value here, don’t even bother.
