Look, I know this whole play is a metaphor for the judgment of society or humanity or whatever. But for me personally? It was too much, and maybe that makes me the problem. I honestly don’t mind in this situation. I don’t want to give ‘compassionate understanding’ to someone who practices even metaphorical bestiality. It was very well written, and I know it’s a very respected piece of literature. I begrudgingly can see its merit, but I can truly say if I didn’t have to read this for my course I would not have finished it.

Also, I personally don’t like the idea of ‘desires’ like homosexuality being portrayed through the metaphor of bestiality or incest because it makes me super uncomfortable no matter what the message of the play is meant to be. Maybe I’m taking it too seriously, but either way, it’s not for me.

Very bizarre. I was assigned to read this for a 300-level lit analysis course. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down--I was able to finish it in about half an hour because drama reads fast. Excellent commentary on how we draw lines in human sexuality.

A tragicomic, mischievous marital drama. An exploration of the limits of modern, upper-middle-class, liberal tolerance. It poses serious questions about the uncontrollable nature of human sexuality.

“Is there anything anyone doesn’t get off on, whether we admit it or not?”
