This fun "Harry Potter" knockoff features 13 year old Rachel Griffen, who is Wise, or magical, not mundane, as she begins her freshman year at Roanoke Academy - a Hogwarts like high school and college for the Wise. Due to her eidetic memory, Rachel is beginning school a year early. She soon makes a few friends and some enemies as well. In this world, where everyone is polytheistic and monotheism has almost been written out of history, Rachel is determined to learn all of the secrets. Why does one of the teachers hate her father? What is up with the red-eyed raven? This humorous book includes references to many other fictional characters and stories including Peter Pan and a mysterious weeping angel statue. In her first five days at school Rachel has a host of adventures, a little romance and she and her friends must save the school from evil. The book ends with a cliffhanger and I look forward to reading the next book. I received this book free to review from Netgalley.

Thoughts and spoilers :-

1. I have been wanting another series like "the Chronicles of Ren Crown", since it was my favourite series in 2019 and Ren Crown being my favourite female character of all time in my 20+ years of reading.

And then i saw this series and then i thought, could this be it? Could i find another Ren Crown to stan?

Short answer, she's not a favourite yet but she has potential.

2. Rachel Griffin is an English Lady, with a fancy title, fortune and everything. She is also very smart with perfect memory & an expert in broom riding. But she is only an average sorceress, which made her less of a Mary Sue. Only a little less, though she isn't annoying and doesn't feel entitled. She is even at some parts self deprecating.

I like characters that goes out of their way to make friends. Which was what drawn me to Ren Crown in the first place. I want a group of friends she can trust unconditionally. But as of current, only Siggy fits the bill.

Also, Where's Laurel and Peter, they get mentioned but there was never on page interaction. They live in the same Hall, how is it they Rachel never interacted with her siblings. Tf?

3. I don't like Nastasia. Maybe she'll grow on me but unless she change her prissy ways, she's only going to get more annoying. Rachel may be on her way to be a troublemaker but Nastasia is such a downer, she might as well be called Debbie (hah, so funny
