I was fooled by the food on the cover again. I thought that this was going to be a decent book based on the rather nice reviews about it, but everyone has their own opinions, I guess.

Alicia is the stupidest protagonist I’ve ever read. She is a boy-crazy, conclusion-jumping, nervous wreck. I understand that this is about middle schoolers, for middle schoolers, but honestly, middle schoolers deserve a better narrator. Is this what authors really think middle school is like? Dane is the only decently sensible character, even though he’s the overused rich-boy-neglected-by-parent cliche.

The plot and writing was cliche and dumpy. The writing (you can see it in the very beginning, like the first page) is full of info dumps and little detail. The plot was like any other. A huge chain threatens to drive out a small business; small business wins. Alicia has no sense of capitalism, no sense of what competition means. She assumes Dane is to blame for everything because he’s the enemy. Honestly, it would’ve been great if she lost the bake-off and remained friends with Dane. (What do they see in each other? All of their interactions are friendly conversations, arguing, and truces. The only thing they have in common is baking.)

This book was my first Wish series book that I read. I did really enjoy this book. I do think however, that this was my least favorite wish book. I do think that you should read it.

Oh this was a cute read! I read it for the PopSugar Reading challenge for "pop" in title. It is definitely a quick, cozy, YA romance, but I enjoyed it. It was a quick listen on audio if you are looking for something to boost your reading goals!

To be honest, I am not sure why I got this - I think a later book in the series caught my attention. However, I did like this, I thought it was a sweet story and pretty relatable too. I would have enjoyed reading this when I was younger. Ali is a pretty typical middle schooler, except that she loves baking. This book is about so much more than just baking though. Ali has to gain confidence  in herself  and in her talents. She has to learn to speak up for herself  and deal with awkward -but normal- boy issues. I am glad that I read it and will be saving it for my daughter.

This has a cute premise, with a middle school girl who loves baking dealing with typical middle school issues, but with a bake-off.
