Let me preface this review by stating I rarely give out five stars. A novel needs to be genre-busting, life-changing, or otherwise outstanding to be rated five-stars. How else can we identify the real standouts if average, or slightly above average, books are all rated at the top of the rating scale? A four-star novel needs to be either unputdownable or so good it sticks with me for a long time. A three-star novel is a good book that has an excellent plot, minimal or no errors, and that I would be willing to recommend to a friend. In other words, in my opinion, a three-star review is a good review.

My review of Fury: The Awakening:
This was a solid 3.5 star read.
The positives:
The story was well executed and a nice take on time-travel similar to the old series Quantum Leap (Yeah… I’m that old).
The finale built tension and was difficult to put down during the last few chapters.
The characters were likeable and relatable.
The writing itself was relatively error free and, although not complex, didn’t make me feel like I was “down”.
The basic structure of the story flowed extremely well.
There was a smattering of romance, a dash of suspense, and a bit with a dog. Overall it was a fun read and certainly worth checking out.

The negatives:
There were a few continuity problems with the story but, if you simply write them off to time travel, they can be overlooked.
The story was placed in Oregon and, as resident of the State, there were some geographical and location errors that drove me a bit crazy. If you’re not from Oregon, you probably wouldn’t even notice.

The dialogue was a bit strained, and unrealistic, at times but overall it was okay. The old Elmore Leonard saying, “If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it,” could have been employed. Many of the conversations left me saying to myself, “People just don’t talk like that.”

Final conclusion:
This was an above average story, by an above average author, and an interesting take on a common trope. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to people that I know that are looking for a fast, fun, and generally entertaining read. I don’t round up so, although I rate this a 3.5-star novel, 3-stars.
