**I received a copy of Cowboy for Hire from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.**

Cowboy for Hire by Victoria James is the second book in her Wishing River series. I do have to say that I liked the first book more but this addition did have its moments. There are two damaged souls, a overprotective housekeeper, Mrs. Casey, who tells it like it is and loves her glass of whiskey (This is my fav), a troubled past for both Sarah Turner and Cade Walker and of course the ad that ran for a "Cowboy for Hire who loves long walks...hmm you can imagine how many showed up for interviews but who put the ad in wasn't really answered. But all in all I admired Sarah for standing her ground and being stubborn enough to prove to the hired hands and Cade that she could run the ranch.

Sarah Turner has to prove that she can run the ranch after the death of both her parents but first she has to find a new foreman. Little does she know that Cade Walker from a neighboring ranch is very interested in taking what he's learned from the Donnelly ranch and be a foreman at the Turners. But first she has to learn how to fix fences, go on a cattle drive and also learn the hard truth of how bad the finances for the ranch are after her father's death. But it's turning out to be a lot harder than she thought.

Cade Walker is ready to become a foreman and ranch manager but he didn't think he'd be teaching Sarah as well. She'll surprise him with her determination to learn as well as know all aspects of running her families ranch. But when he starts finding discrepancies in the books he'll have to break the news to her but when he learns the story behind the loss of her brother and parents he'll understand her reason behind learning everything. When he starts to fall in love with her will they be able make it last?

I liked this story it was super cute, emotional and a fun read. I liked Sarah my heart broke for her and everything she faced, but she was a fighter and nothing was going to hold her back from getting what she wants. Oh my goodness Cade I think I have a dislike/love relationship with him in this story. Sometimes I wanted to smack him and then sometimes my heart broke for him, I think in this story you will find two heroes not just one. I also really enjoyed the other characters in the book they are all a fun group of friends and the author made you feel like you were right there hanging out. I can't wait to see what adventure the author takes Dean and Hope one, or at least that's what I hope the author is going for next. :-). Overall this was a fun read. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion

Cowboy for Hire is the second story in Victoria James Wishing River series and focuses on Cade a cowboy whose got no real family and who decides to leave the only home, he's ever known to take on the job of foreman at the neighbouring Joshua Ranch for sheltered ranch owner Sarah. Who has recently inherited her parents' ranch and needs someone to not only help her run it but show her how.

And it was a nice story with some moments of sweetness and fun as well as being easy and uncomplicated which helped make it more engaging to read. But it did lack depth and the romance between Cade and Sarah unfortunately didn't ignite the page. Still, it was enjoyable and there's no denying these two troubled characters did grow as the story progressed.

Two people who have a pretty broken past work together to find a new brighter future together. That is the moral of this story and it is a great read. You get the past, the present, and a view of what the future will bring. The main characters are likable and Sara isn't a naive girl who just needs rescuing.
Overall a great read if you want something not completely fluffy but still has a Happily Ever After.

This is a sweet and lighthearted romance drama. I really enjoyed reading it and loved all the characters. Cade and Sarah seemed to be meant for each other and I absolutely adored their interactions right from the start. I think this book is a must-read for the fans of contemporary fiction.

I love cowboy romance stories and this interested me. I didn't know about the first book in this series but it not important to read to follow this one. But to know about Tyler and Lainey's story it's a good read.
These 2 have a difficult past and it affects them big time with this relationship. There is so much hurt they are each holding on to. It t as kes a lot to break through it. I think it was close to half way through when it really pulled me in and I was rooting for them to put aside their differences and be honest with one another (more so him) and try to have a real relationship. I felt like they built so much up to the very end I didn't want the book to end. I need more!
I hot a free ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Where to begin with this book? I should start by saying it has its moments.

That said, I did expect more from it. More conflict, more tension to keep me turning the pages. On their own, the characters were super likable and both had so much depth. I could see the story unfolding in real life, but a story is not supposed to be like real life. It's supposed to have a conflict. I guess this is what bothered me the most.

Fine, okay, there is a conflict, but...

I don't want to spoil anything, even though there is little I can say to truly spoil the book. But there is something our cowboy Cade is keeping from Sarah. That does work and has you wondering what will happen. But it's something that is so in the back of your mind, it doesn't really matter throughout the book, until Cade begins to think about it more and then the conflict actually comes into play.

For a book to keep me hooked I need more. So we get these scenes between our leads, which are nice, I guess. But they're a teeny tiny bit dull. It just feels like there's a lot of talking, and yearning, and pining, and not enough tension, spiciness... I don't know!

I probably wouldn't feel like this if the word 'cowboy' wasn't in the title. It built my expectations, and I was expecting a different kind of story. I expected more banter between the characters. Not that I wanted sweet, responsible Cade to be an asshole. No, I like him as he is. But while he got know Sarah, I really would have appreciated them arguing more, and seeing them work on ranch problems together. Really see how they pushed each other's buttons.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see that here. But now, I'm going to tell you more about what I did like.

These characters really grow throughout the story

I can't complain about one dimensional characters here. Their backgrounds are quite sad, and they clearly need the emotional support. Sarah learns to stand up for herself, which I applaud so much. She does it even when it means antagonizing Cade, who she cares for very deeply. At one point when he makes a mess of things, she doesn't inmediately cave in but makes it clear he made a mistake.

Cade too is super well defined. Perhaps knowing exactly what his problem is makes him a bit dull, but I appreciate that at least he's got a story. He's got motivations and fears. They're a very important part of this story. And you gotta appreciate a vulnerable male lead.

Overall, I'd say this is a nice book. It lacked that added oomph that would've made it awesome.
