Seventeen-yr-old Charlotte Covington and her mother have left jolly ol’ England for the United States of ‘Murica. On the Titanic. Ok, we all know where this story is heading, right? But this has a bit of a twist in the form of Dr. Henry Beckwith. The good Doctor is more than just a doctor and researcher. And on the fateful night, Charlotte is about to find out what, exactly, he is.

This story starts out 4 days prior to the Titanic’s date with an iceberg and is told from Charlotte’s POV. She and her mother have no prospects after Charlotte’s father dies so they are heading to America to live with her uncle. When her mother becomes ill and the ship’s Dr. is overtaxed, Dr. Beckwith, a passenger, offers to take up some of the slack. And thus he and Charlotte cross paths. I have to admit, there is some suspense even though I knew perfectly well what happened to the Titanic. Hmmm…maybe it’s because I know exactly what was coming that I felt on edge as Charlotte becomes smitten with Henry. Will the characters I met survive? *bites nails* Other than dragging a bit for me, this well-written short is a good start in what appears to be a Begotten Blood series. I’ll need to look further into those books.
