I had high hopes for this book, seeing how much it had been hyped as an Australian Classic. It failed to live up to its potential. When comparing this to one of Bryce Courtenay or Colleen McCullough's novels it is lacking. I feel like it was the thoughts of the characters rather than the actual events and context. Plus the sprinkling of magical realism that really never seemed explained.
Some may enjoy a story without much point, but it's not really my cup of tea.

Very much enjoyed this book, the language and the settings. Brought back childhood memories of times gone by.
