I loved this. Wish I could continue with this series, but parts strike too emotional a chord with me for personal reasons right now. So I’m putting my further progress on hold. Want to come back to it though.

I knew nothing about this except for the cover artwork which looked interesting.
I was very pleasantly surprised by how quick the story sucked me in. I immediately got vibes of the walking dead, Shyamalan's The village and McCarthy The road.
The characters are great, Gus is written perfectly and I immediately connected with him.

The only issue I have is that the artwork wasn't appealing to me at first. It was far too abrasive and rough but within a few pages it grew on me. It definitely has it own style, with its raggedy humans and emaciated looking animals. I especially liked the use of the long stretched out shadows and Gus's profile.

Overall, a great start to a series which I will continue.

Honestly I think that I enjoyed the tv show more than the comics, I think mostly because the comics have a darker tone than the show. I really enjoyed the relationship between Sweet Tooth and the Big Man in the show but the relationship in the comics is harder to appreciate. I’m also not the biggest fan of the art style.

However the premise of the story is still interesting enough that I’ll keep reading. If you liked the idea behind the show but want something darker then you’ll definitely enjoy the comics more!

Wonderful series that I got sucked into by a dear friend who I'm going to have to torture with similar apocalyptically themed reading materials. Can't stop thinking about it.
