Couldn't get into this clunky mystery. Too wordy for me to tell what was actually going on.

Elwood Ranelagh is riding past the closed Whispering Pines Country Clubhouse when he notices smoke coming from a chimney. On entering Carmel Cumberland, the woman he loves rushes out, on investigation he discovers his betrothed, Adelaide, sister to Carmel dead. A few minutes later the police arrive and he is arrested.
An entertaining mystery originally written in 1910

Not a page turner, but it had its moments and definitely piqued my curiosity. I found Sweetwater intriguing, but didn't care much for the rest of the characters.

The plot is good, but it's awfully slow to read when you live in the 21st century.
