Finished today because I had a sick day. Once again, enjoyed it - though did find the translation clumsy in one or two places.

This one had the police of four nations cooperating, all in shaky English: Sweden, London, Paris, and the FBI shows up at the end to explain it all. And that's what I found frustrating with this one: the deux ex machina appearance of the FBI to put all the pieces together

First, an exceedingly wealthy man is killed - point blank in the head, two bullets - and within a day there is a second set of murders that match the first. The trail leads through an astonishingly uncommunicative wife finally to Paris - where Irene and her colleague get a bit roughed up as they investigate.

It has it's sadness -- though the main story makes you feel none of the victims were worth mourning much: all swindlers of one sort or another, attempting and failing at high finance. There's a little bit of love and friendship, and the changing nature of the police force.

This one was a little overly complex and confusing.

Solid Swedish police procedural. Inspector Huss and her team have three dead bodies on their hands, all shot execution style.

This is a long, tedious, and in the end entirely bogus story, told in simplistic, repetitive prose. Swedish cops run around in circles trying to figure out a series of murders of connected venture capitalists. Then, a dozen pages from the end, the friggin' FBI shows up and explains it all. They have been tracking the case for years, which involves the mafia in the USA. Give me a break? What is the point of this book?

This book is the 5th in the series, but the first one I read. It's been a long while since I read a good old Scandinavian mystery and this one brought back those memories. I wpnder why I took so long to get back these books.
This series is called Inspector Huss series, but the author gives equal roles to all the other detectives. It was good to see everyone working together - in the American or British detective series we usually see the Hero working alone.
We see glimpses of Inspector Huss's personal life which didn't overpower the detective plot. Though I felt Tommy's divorce plot was unnecessary.
The plot gets a bit complicated with multiple murders in different countries spanning more than 3 years. The common connection to all the murders, the dot com diva/ princess Sanna Kaegler-Ceder, was a despisable character. The financial fraud that she and her partner commit (starting a company with lots of promises and attracting huge investments, without a product to sell !) reminded me of the Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. (Read [b:Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup|37976541|Bad Blood Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup|John Carreyrou|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1523311515l/37976541._SX50_.jpg|59699437])

The audible narration was excellent. If I had read this in text format, I wouldn't have got the names right.
Recommended to fans of detective fiction and those who like Scandinavian mysteries I have earlier read and liked the short stories by Helene Trusten ([b:An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good|40104741|An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good (Äldre dam, #1)|Helene Tursten|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1526077553l/40104741._SX50_.jpg|62169561]).

I am a big fan of Helene Tursten, but this book lost me half way through. Such a complicated plot, so many characters past present and somewhere in the distance. The ending left me cold. I hope this is not going to be the trend for future books.

There were enough twists and turns to keep the pace up and keep it interesting through the entire book.

One of those deus ex machina endings that I am not a fan of. Though I enjoyed it up to that point.
