This book series was so lovely and enchanting honestly, the connection you make with the characters and nature in each book was so great. I'll miss these books and wish there were more

A little annoyed by the seemingly constant bashing of Christianity, even for magical realism, even though it seemed to get slightly better at the end. I did like the story more as it went on than I did in the beginning, and, as always, I loved Nadia!

After re-reading the whole series, I think I rank this as the 2nd-best, which was definitely not my opinion as a child. The series grows with the reader: City of the Beasts is the most obviously fantastical, the Kingdom of the Golden Dragon has more defined magic but less mysticism
mostly because the magic is explicitly explained at the end of the book with the Golden Dragon reveal
, and this is by far the most grounded of the series. To my older sensibilities, I think this explores the morals present in the book with a more sophisticated lens. The ethnic groups in this book are less monolithic than its predecessors, there are fewer stereotypes (though still many), both Eagle and Jaguar are more self-reflective. All in all, its a wonderful completion to a series for children and I would recommend it to any child or parent interested in the wider world.
