The beginning set it up as a description of what would happen if the world stopped shopping. However, it really was just tangents off that idea about historical situations or places with less shopping (and one chapter on an economic modeling software) but for me it did not paint a picture of what would happen if the world stopped shopping. To me it was just random things and the only take away was the epilogue where the author seems to say there's no point in reducing your shopping (even though it seemed the book was trying to say you'll be happier and businesses do better when not focused on buying more and growth respectively). It was kind of confusing for such a 180. I guess they just didn't want people getting offensive? Or feeling guilty about buying things?

I would LOVE for this thought experiment to become a reality. But it would take entire generations for this to become a reality.
Still, I learned so much and am affirmed in my life’s decision to live simply. Leaving this book with more ideas on how to live an even less consumerist lifestyle.

Important and thought-provoking...I am re-thinking and adapting my shopping patterns as a result.

Live simply so others can simply live.  This is a central theme of this book.  This book is a "thought experiment" that's a sociological and economic analysis in the context of human impact on the environment.

I HIGHLY recommend this book. It was well-researched, well-written, well-organized and impactful. It has a very important message, and is engaging and interesting. I'll be thinking about it for a long time.
