Beautiful, sad, reflective analysis of familial roles and conflicts between mother/daughter in law, and the self sacrificial nature of womanhood in 18th century Japanese family dynamics.

It was an interesting book but it had a weird mixture of being biographical at points and fictional which left some of the events and pacing of the story disjointed at points.
