Favorite Female Character: Tomi Lucas
Favorite Male Character: Froze Darcy

This book was fine. I think it worked as a retelling of Pride and Prejudice and I really appreciated the diverse cast of characters. Also, as a former speech and debate kid myself, I can say that a lot of those scenes were well-written and on par with experiences i've had it heard about. The author made good points, and I respect the message she was trying to get across.

…however, I really struggled with the language use in this one. It felt like these contemporary characters were regurgitating lines from 1813 that wouldn't make sense for them to be saying in today's dialogue. This took me out of the story and made it hard to take seriously. There were also a lot of overdramatic, overplayed moments, but that's honestly just consistent with most high school theatre/forensics kids.

Leela Bose competes to win. When she switches to debate to beat Firoze Darcy, she ends up with more than she bargained for.
Okay, Sayantani DasGupta had me at high school forensics and debate plus Jane Austen. But even if you’re not a fan of those two things, this story about the many kinds of love and about speaking your truth will win you over.

 OMG brown speech kids!!

I ado feed this book so mich. As someone who loves the story(and will read the og novel soon) this book was obviously gonna be a joy to read that that it was. I felt the novel effectively used the elements from the original tale quite effectively and they ended up translating well in this modern setting.

Leela and Darcy were so fun to read about and I loved seeing their relationship develop. I adored how their characters were written, both so lovable.

This book is also just a breath of fresh air and was so relatable as I am too a brown girl who does speech. Reading this book really made me miss the season 🥹

Such an awesome story written by Sayantani Dasgupta and I hope she releases more stories!!
