I really wanted to love this book but I was slightly disappointed with it. I found the constant mood changes in the book made it quite hard to read. One minute it's jokey and lightheaded and the next very depressing.

Surprisingly I didn't warm to Claire's character much, I think it's because there wasn't much to her other than her love for Gibsie. I thought Gibsie was written really well, he's such a complex character and it really came across. I was also disappointed with Lizzie's character, I really wanted to like and understand her but the constant bickering (and bullying) was just too much.
I think my favorite parts of the book were any time the Lynch siblings, Aiofe and Johnny were mentioned.

I wish the book had less filler chapters and got to the actual gritty part a lot sooner. It felt like reading a lot of silly chatter and Claire and Gibsie go round in circles on whether they should be together or not. Then around 100 pages to the end of the book a major incident is revealed. I think with certain topics there should be time to make sure it's covered properly and I don't think it was given that. It really threw me because I wasn't expecting it and then within a couple short chapters it had already been wrapped up and swept under the rug.

"Yes," I screamed back at her. "Your sister is not the victim in this story. She was never Mark's victim. She was his fucking accomplice!"
definition of
ac·com·plice
/əˈkämpləs/
noun
a person who helps another commit a crime.

Uhh... this book is very polarizing to me. The last 25% of this book made me cry my eyes out but how Gibsie's trauma was handled was a big NO. Also blaming somebody's dead sister who commited suicide because of the guilt she felt that she didn't believe him (that is completely different than actually knowing what was happening and NOT doing anything about it.) is not great.
This also didn't feel like a romance at all. Don't even get me started on fucking Lizzie. She made me want to pulling my fucking hair out.

I love every chance we get to spend time in the Tommen universe but I admit I don’t think my heart could have taken another deep dive into the Lynch household and the horrors there. That is one of the many reasons I was so excited for Claire and Gibsie’s story. Their relationship is so heartfelt and I loved seeing Shannon and Joey living their own hard-won happiness.

This book was no less emotional and hard to read at times as the other books in this series (please take care reading and check triggers before starting) but it was also every bit as beautiful and captivating. It makes you want to reach in and hug these characters, especially Gibsie, the sweetest sunshine

There were certainly times I was frustrated when it took so long for secrets to get out in the open, but it’s completely understandable why that was the case

This book really makes me look forward to more books in this series, especially Lizzie’s. May favourite stories are ones where a character I can’t imagine liking redeems themselves. There is no one I trust more to pull this off than Chloe Walsh.
