Weakest book of the trilogy. Rin is an unlikeable character (which I think is a good thing) but her decisions follow no logic whatsoever which is frustrating considering how books 1&2 set her up to be a strategic genius. The writing can be very repetitive with Rin thinking/saying essentially the same thing over multiple paragraphs. As a reread, I now remember why I favor the first two books of the series.

I felt as satisfied reading this book as I did with the other two. BUT
the last 20 pages? I was waiting for Kuang to pull a twist, and I suppose she did. I don't know if I like it though, and I certainly did get that "damn bitch, you can write" feeling that Kuang had inspired in me so many times through the trilogy.
I want to see what she writes in her forties so baaaaadd

This book was really annoying and overly long. The main character is whiney and impulsive and judgemental. Several interesting things are set up but not fully realized-- the loss of her hand, her linked soul. These should be integral to her as a character, but instead only appear when convenient. Her anger and bloodlust make her irrational (which makes sense, as she's linked with a God that feeds on this), but she's so self important that it's just frustrating to read. At critical moments in the book, so doesn't actually do anything but takes credit as if she has. The writing itself is very repetitive.

Really loved the first two books, but this one fell a little flat for me. It felt much slower than the other two, and I honestly enjoyed the second one more than this one, which is not the norm for me. I just really wasn't into this one as much and just tried to get through it.
