I technically read this last year, but I am absolutely floored. This author has done it once again!

As someone who doesn't read much fantasy but absolutely fell in love with the world of Selene in the first installment, I thought that I wouldn't be able to love another book more. And then this one happened. It was so nice being able to get back to a world where I knew all the characters and where each of them felt like a long lost friend. Cassia, Lucas and the gang went through a different adventure in this one and it was so fun to be able to read about that. There was also the budding romance that kept me flipping the pages to find out more. This is installment felt like a long lost friend and it may even be my favourite fantasy book I've ever read.

If you haven't gotten into the world of Selene and you haven't gotten to know the badass Cassia, the wonderful Lucas and the misunderstood Lochlan, what the hell are you waiting for?

Exquisite!
Book 1 was lovely but this sequel kicks it up a notch! It is beautifully written and we get to see a softer side to Shameez's writing and she NAILS it with her characters! Simply on edge for book 3 and cannot wait.

Firstly, thank you so so much to Shameez for sending me an eARC of TES. I'm so grateful to have received an early copy.

This book follows on from Cassia, who left the Selene Realm with a cure for her sister, Calla. With her powers growing, she feels even more connected to the realm where her best friend, Lucas, is a part of.
Cassia continues to use her magic, but what she didn't know was that this wasn’t allowed - this soon leads to an abduction by the king.
Lochlan escapes with Cassia, but they need to flee Selene to escape the king and find allies elsewhere.

In another realm... But something dark and terrifying is waiting for them. Waiting for Cassia. A dark, consuming shadow.

This was so brilliant! The characters have matured (in many ways

Favourite quote: "Bonded in broken, huh? He smiled and shook his head." I don't think you're broken. The term insinuates something that needs to be fixed".

Cassia is back in Talm, using her magic to help others as Calla is finally healthy and shes back with her mom.

That is until she is kidnapped by the king for using her magic outside of Selene.

Thankfully she is saved by Lochlan, yet again, and must now flee Selene to another realm, while facing the ultimate task of facing a new monster, or going up against the king.

I finished the second installment of the Selene Trilogy in 2 days, and it had me in my feels. @shameezwrites definitely raised the bar with this one, in that the characters develop, and I had some real anger towards a certain matriarch. *bad vibes* but towards the end, I was squealing at the spicy moments and am now left waiting in earnest for the last installment.

It was such an amazing read!

After returning to her realm, Cassia continues to use the magic she’d discovered in Selene. Little did she know, that wasn’t allowed and because of it, she’s abducted by the king. Luckily, Prince Lochlan is still living in the castle pretending to be under the king’s command. After Lochlan frees Cassia, they all need to flee Selene to escape the king and find allies elsewhere.

But in this new realm, all the inhabitants are afraid of the dark where a shadow is lurking, feeding upon them.

With nowhere else to go, they have to choose, either they face the king or this eternal shadow.

Taking the phenomenal story world from the first book and expanding it, @shameezwrites manages what very few authors have successfully pulled off. Creating a secondary world equally if not more captivating than the first. This installment is as thrilling and captivating as the first, and I was completely and utterly consumed by it. (My husband was laughing at my constant sighing and wishing book 3 would magically appear on my shelf.) Book 2 also brings us a bit more spice and steam with several blossoming relationships amongst the characters. An addictive grumpy-sunshine trope will have you loving this found family vs blood family dynamic.

This book also deals with a few intense themes like loyalty, trust, loss, grief, abduction, attempted sexual assault - so make sure you check all the trigger warnings.

This author really has such a phenomenal voice and talent and I would love to see her get the hype her books deserve. She is truly a force to be reckoned with.
