This ending was fine, happy for most involved, but this was one of the weaker entries to a decent series. I kind of hated how much of a pushover Dean was, especially towards Astrid. He let her push him around the entire book, and still wants to be with her despite the fact that she's pregnant with another guy's baby. Like it's time to get over her and move on while you're still young. Josie's POV was okay, but there was a lot of fake suspense that I stopped caring about after a while. There was a nice, tidy ending though, and that was okay.

Ultimately I have come to the conclusion that this just was not the series for me. I also don't think that this author's writing style works for me; while this book was compulsively readable, I spent much of this book completely disconnected from the narrative and really not caring about any of the characters at all. Meh.

Bottom line, this book was just as great as the other 2! I really love these characters and I am sad to say goodbye to them.
I don't see why people compare it to Divergent and The Hunger Games except for the fact that they are all amazing reads. But that is where the comparisons, IMO, end.
Monument 14 series is wonderful and beautifully written. Please check it out if you have not done so already!

After a bit of a bright spot with Sky on Fire, the Monument 14 trilogy settled back into mediocrity with Savage Drift.
This time we got alternative POV between Dean, who begins the story in a refugee camp near Vancouver, and Josie, who is in an O containment camp in Missouri.
Throughout the series, the writing style has not been my favourite. It's stream-of-conciousness style, which isn't really my thing, especially combined with not really being a big fan of one of the narrators: Dean. I just didn't connect with Dean very well throughout the series. It has a lot to do with just not finding any common ground with him and some to do with just not being able to buy into a teenage boy falling in love with a girl pregnant from another man. Maybe Dean's a bigger person than I am or maybe that's just one of the crazy things love does to a person, but I just had a hard time buying it. It didn't help that I'm also not a fan of Astrid, so I guess I couldn't really see what the fuss was about.
Josie's POV was a bit better, but she go on my nerves a bit the way she was trying to cut herself off from everyone. I understand that it would be a totally normal reaction to what happened, but it's a bit annoying to read about over and over.
The best part of this series is definitely the plot. I love apocalyptic stories and that's definitely what kept me going through this series and kept the star rating up at 3. There was lots of tension that kept me flipping the pages excitedly to find out what happens.
Unfortunately, the ending/epilogue didn't really work for me. It was too neat and too happy. If that's you're thing, you enjoy it, but I prefer my endings to gritty stories to be a bit grittier. That's all I can say due to spoilers.
Overall, Savage Drift and the Monument 14 series in general was okay, but definitely doesn't make it onto my favourite series shelf.

The book was a little tough to get through. Not because of horrible writing. I was having trouble finding an interest in the jealousy war between Dean and Jake. It felt rushed at times, but the end wrapped up the story in the best way. I'm actually kind of sad that this is the end!

OMG an amazing ending to an incredible series.

You know what I'm talking about. You left one huge huge huge cliffhanger. ONE unresolved issue. And I NEED closure!! PLEASE!!
Anyway, this book is almost all that you hope for. Short of that one little unresolved part, this is everything I'd hoped for. I can finally put Dean, Astrid, Niko, Alex, Josie, Chloe and all the others away.
This was action packed, back to back "OMG!" and just absolutely un-put-down-able. If I hadn't desperately needed sleep I would have read all night. This is a series to read and read again.
Now....if we can get someone to buy the movie rights, I'd love to see it too :)

The entire trilogy is well worth reading although this is the weakest of the three.
