I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars. The epilogue made this a 4 star read, without the epilogue it would be 3 stars.
Spoiler filled review below.. Also a rant of some stuff.. You have been warned.
It seems like every military character in this book is a asshole, bully who likes to hurt people. I don’t understand it. I do like how mature Dean is being about being a ‘somewhat dad’ to Astrid’s baby. He doesn’t care for the title of dad he just wants the role, and i think thats how it should be to someone dating or marrying someone who already has a child. I’m glad they showed Jake getting help for his depression but he hasn’t really changed from what i can tell. He just seems more pissed about Astrid choosing Dean over him. I am beginning to like Sahalia’s character she seems to have grown a little and seems to care for other instead of herself, as shown at the twin’s birthday party. I kinda hope Sahalia and Alex start to date. He seems to mellow her out.
Josie is a totally different person her character did a complete 180. I’m glad it’s showing how her taking a life is affecting her and it isn’t getting brushed under the rug. But it’s almost like she has shut her emotions off and its weird to see. I love Mario’s character you can see how he really cares about Josie and the other kids he’s helped.
I don’t understand, like, at all why they would put women, children and elderly in the same camp as completely O gone killers.
I kind of feel like Astrid is pitting Dean and Jake against each other. And Dean is so Insecure about his relationship with Astrid. Why in the world did he say to the moms and little kids that “See I take care of Astrid and get her whatever she wants. That’s my job I do as I’m told.” Like what the hell dude. Astrid was right to call him a jealous jerk.
I can’t believe the government is kidnapping pregnant women to do experiments on them! Captain McKinley is a great man, taking Astrid out of there and taking Niko to go save Josie.
I hate Jake so much trying to guilt trip Astrid into going to his mom’s. Bring up how the baby is his only chance to be a dad. And honestly I’m tired of Dean and Jake fight every time they speak.
So the compounds for the type Os not only make them stronger and have them muscles, but it cured Dean’s eyesight?
I know Mario just wants to help get Josie out of there but he is a old man he doesn’t need to get hurt or worse at that stupid gate. Stupid old man.
Well...the drifts are real.

Unlike Jake, Dean would/makes a great dad to Rinee. I know he will make a good day to Astrid’s kid. Unlike Jake.
How in the hell did Niko find her so quick? Are you kidding me Carlo and f-Ing Venger have a deal? What deal?!! They get away with everything even beating a kid?! I love how everyone tries to help Josie. And this scene isn’t suspenseful enough here comes a freakin drift!! Ha now avenger gets to be afraid! Finally Carlo and Venger are dead. AHHHH are you kidding me she was soo close to escaping with the kids and then that stupid doctor had just had to shoot her wtf I thought he wanted to help people why keep her there?!?!
I can’t believe Jake just left, I mean I can cause he a coward and isn’t ready to be a dad. But Astrid freaking out over him was just too much like seriously. He left he doesn’t want to be a dad and you can’t make him. Deal with it you have Dean who actually takes care of you and the baby yet your worrying to death over Jake? C’mon now.
I wonder if Astrid will survive the birth. Since she won’t go to the hospital.
And of course Josie was taken away right went Niko found her. Now what?
Are they really going to experiment on Josie against her will? Are you kidding me and for a weapon not for a cure!!!!!
That dumbass cutlass dr telling Josie is MIGHT check for her to see if the kids are ok for a sample of her spinal fluid and saying she gets released soon after. I know that is a lie and now Josie knows it too cause Sandy told her not too. What was he going to do to her? Experiment on her? Kill her? Why can’t the ones like Cutlass and the bad soldiers die already.
I wonder if Sandy is trying to help her escape. That stupid Dr trying to bribe Josie to help him. What is he planning!
Sandy is trying to help her she told her about the security camera in the room. So the spinal taps are dangerous for people who have been exposed.
I honestly can’t tell weather Dean was smart or stupid to flag down a army truck full of soldiers and tell them that they are wanted for testing. Idiot. And are all soldiers assholes or just the ones in this book?
All because she refused to sign the form he labeled her incorporative, moves Sandy to a different floor for warning her, and restrains her again? Ugh and why did she say she’d sign the form is he finds Niko? Stupid Josie.
Niko and Josie reunited is so heartwarming. I hope she survives that stupid spinal tap thing. I can’t get over how that Cutlass made her sign the form for her to see Niko.
So Cutlass is the one who wanted Astrid brought in against her will for testing. Dr. Savor telling Sandy to tell Josie the risks of the procedure makes him the only good Dr in this whole book. And what are the odds that Astrid and Dean are taken to the same hospital that Josie and Niko are in?
If Astrid does end up dying they better give the baby to Dean and not try to keep it to run experiments on.
Wait did Cutlass want Astrid brought in because he knew her from Brayden? I don’t think so. And did he not seriously look for him son?
I can’t believe he bet Josie get out of the spinal tap. All because they told him they knew Brayden and tried to save him. Hopefully all he wants is her blood and spit.
Astrid is alive and now Dean and Astrid have a little boy. I love the name she chose. And I’m glad Cutlass stopped being a douche after he found out about Brayden. Omg Sahalia’s dad was at Niko’s uncle’s farm!! I want all them together again!! And uncle Tim is so nice!
I love how they put Sahalia’s dad’s bedroom between Sahalia’s and Alex’s. Funny. Alex surprised Dean with their parents!! I want to know what happened to their mom though.
