Really struggled because it has been so long since I read the previous books. Fun, but I'm sure it's a ton better if I had retained context.

I'm really mad about this because, as in the other books in the series, I find the juxtaposition of the (kind of depressing) content and the light-hearted and comedic writing style super jarring, but also it was so well-written and the ending made me cry and was very well-executed, so do with that what you will.

Adding yourself in as a minor character is fine. Adding yourself in the way Fforde did at the ending is just tacky.

I just don’t care about the characters anymore. It’s been too long. Which is a bummer bc I loved this series.
This installment is sometimes funny but it’s also kinda bogged down in details and there are so many footnotes which are annoying on an e-reader. So a DNF. Too many books to read.

I didn't enjoy this as much as the others and I'm not sure why! It felt an odd conclusion too, but it was nice for it all to wrap up.
