My summary:
Cade Eaton has been busy taking care of everyone else throughout his entire life. After his mom died when he was only 8, he stepped up to help his dad and younger brothers and sister. Then, when his dad retired, he took over running their ranch. And he’s raised his five year old son, Luke, entirely on his own ever since his piece of shit ex left them both behind. Trying to find a nanny for the summer is next to impossible—especially in a small town where he’s the most eligible bachelor, much to the chagrin of the broody and grumpy Cade. When Cade’s brother’s fiancée suggests her best friend, Willa Grant, Cade immediately refuses. But once the hurricane that is Willa rolls into town, it doesn’t take long at all for Luke to be enraptured by the fun and fiery Willa, and soon Cade is firmly under her spell too.

My thoughts:
I’m not sure there are very many romance books I have loved as thoroughly as I love Heartless by Elsie Silver. From the first page to the last, I could not put this down and read it in about a day (a workday, no less—who needs sleep with books this good around?!).

I read Wild Love before I started the Chestnut Springs series so I already had a glimpse of what’s going to happen and I. Couldn’t. Wait. And it did not disappoint in any way.

The single dad trope has never been my favorite but, wow, it is now! Throw in the hot and grumpy cowboy with the fiery and unpredictable nanny and the most adorable kid on the planet and then I am a goner. Add in the small town and ranch setting and then it can’t get any more perfect.

This book is absolutely fucking hilarious. And hot. I cannot love Elsie Silver’s writing style more if I tried. If I were to ever write a book (which is highly improbable) I hope it would turn out half as good as this. I cannot wait to finish the Chestnut Springs series but I also don’t ever want it to end either. Luckily I have three more books to go.

OMG!!! I LOVE this book. This is my favorite out of the whole series. Every single aspect is just *chef's kiss*. DADDY CADEEEEE! I love this man! I really thought no one would pass Rhett Eaton but hot damn, Cade had to come and just take Rhett's spot. I was so surprised with this man if I am being honest. The words that this man spoke, I am obsessed. As the story goes on the more I like him, the fact that he is able to talk about his past and his insecurities just made it way better. The love that he has for Luke is just incomparable to anything else, this man would do anything and everything for his boy and I find that so special. Luke's character was just so special, he was literally the cherry on top of the book, the book was so good and he made it so much better. Willa..... WILLA! I freaking love this woman! She is a FIRECRAKER! And I couldn't love her more. She is just so special and her personality brings so much to the book. She cares so deeply for those she loves and it shows. Her relationship with Luke is just absolutely beautiful and it made my heart melt every single time. NOW! Cade and Willa's relationship is just *cheff's kiss* *swoon* I just don't have words. They are perfect for each other. WIlla brings so much light and Cade is the calm of the Hurricane. I just couldn't get enough of this couple. The banter! The SPICE! They just love each other so much and all they want is for each other and Luke to be happy. They are just polar opposites and they complement each other. Love love love. I don't know what else I can say.

Memorable Quotes
  •  “And I realize in that moment maybe I am heartless after all, because the beautiful girl with the copper hair grinning back at me right now is the one who stole it.”
  •  “Life lesson, shithead. Careful who you pick a fight with. Someone insane might love him.”
  •  “I don’t care. Don’t you get it? I’m in love with you, Willa. Prickly legs, random carrots in your purse
    , pregnant, not pregnant.
    I want you.”
  •  “Keep talking like that and I’m going to fuck the filth right out of your pretty mouth.”
  •  “Cade is the embodiment of actions speaking louder than words. "
  •  “Do you think . . .” He peers back up at me now. “Do you think it would be okay if I called you mom too?”
  •  “Thank you. Thank you for being the first person in my life to put me first, to give me options. I’m not sure I deserve that gift, but I know that I’ll never forget it for as long as I live.”
  •  “Every part of me wants to go after her, but sometimes loving someone means giving them the space they want. The space they need. For a little while, at least.”

I finished Cade and Willa’s story in one sitting because I genuinely couldn’t put it down. To be honest, I was rushing to get to reading Reckless, but I enjoyed this, nevertheless. Luke was an adorable addition to this grumpy x sunshine story. I appreciated how Elsie Silver touched up on the conflicts and insecurities couples in age-gap relationships face. I don’t read a lot of the trope and it’s not exactly a favorite, so Heartless was definitely a first. Again, little to no conflict, just feel-good all over and let me tell you Cade has a fucking dirty mouth. The smut just keeps getting better to the point where I don’t know if I want Willa or be her. The banter and family dynamics here were hilarious as well (big shoutout to Harvey for the ‘innocent’ blowjob jokes). Currently rushing to Jasper and Sloane as we speak.

I am enjoying this series but it’s not blowing me away by any means. It’s cute and the spice is pretty good but the dialogue can be corny and sometimes the stakes feel a little silly. Also, Elsie, please tell me you understand feminism doesn’t mean swearing off men and children? It’s about equality and having a choice. You’ve made the same joke twice now and it’s just cringey. All that said, these books are decent palate cleansers and I definitely work my way through the series.
