This book was an amazing view into the world of a child soldier - a story written in such a broad way that it could be any child in any war. The language is true to character and the language barrier of a child speaking pidgin English gives us so many wonderful metaphors and descriptions when our main character Agu doesn’t know a word or term.

This book has one of the most beautiful proses of any books I’ve read to date. But it is so gut wrentchingly sad. Like wanting to throw up in the 2nd chapter sad. I am glad I read this book but it was an emotional burden and journey.
