This was a rough read despite its short length. The story is about a young woman growing up and navigating a world where people extrude various creepy crawlies (centipedes, scorpions, moths) when touched in a way that makes them uncomfortable. A look at the ways women are expected to be "accommodating" in all circumstances, even painful or traumatic ones.

CW sexual violence. Very short piece on rape culture. Uncomfortable and sad.

I think the point the author was trying to make felt a little forced. This is suppose to be "a speculative exploration of rape culture and hiding pain in favor of others’ pleasure." I got it a bit, but I also didn't understand. There may be symbolism in the creatures that each person has, but if so it was lost on me.

Everyone has a different creature inside of them that appears at an uncomfortable or unwelcome touch.

This was a very tough, very difficult read. The focus is on sexual assault and it doesn't shy away from the wretchedness of it all. The metaphors were very well done, albeit very hard to read. This is one of those dark, grim, but important tales.
