Amazing, harrowing and entertaining. I learned so much, laughed at the comforting Aussie slang and expressions (I should use 'muckety muck' more often! What is wrong with me!?!) and loved the obvious in-depth research the author has done to create this masterpiece. A wonderful story.

I probably didn't give this book enough time, but I just couldn't keep on reading it. The pacing seemed really slow and it didn't suck me in like AYear of Wonder and Caleb's Crossing did.

I enjoyed the stories of the different people of the book and learned history and customs along the way.

This was my first Geraldine Brooks novel and it was amazing. Hanna Heath is a book conservationist who is called in to work on a Jewish prayer book found in Sarajevo. This book has, against all odds, made it through over 500 years of book burnings and religious fighting. From the clues that Hanna finds (such as salt, an insect wing, and blood), we learn about the book's journey and the people that risked their lives to save it. Wonderful, wonderful read: 5 stars.
