Review is for monthly issues 6-10 and not the graphic novel itself, which has yet to be released at the time of this post. Major spoilers have been hidden. Minor ones may still appear.
I love the hell out of Young Avengers, but it occurs to me that if I had to give specific reasons, I’d be hard-pressed to come up with them. It comes down to the simple matter that it’s fun. It is a consistently fun read that never fails to keep me wanting the next issue. Gillen has created a dynamic chemistry between his leading cast, with the Billy/Wiccan and Teddy/Hulkling storyline and with Miss America and a pre-teen Loki (who’s really gool ol’ Loki trapped in a much younger body). Though Kate (Hawkeye) and Nor-Varr (Marvel Boy), have mostly been background eye candy until this point, they are a particularly delightful kind of eye candy.
This volume introduces a couple of new characters and a new antagonist who may or may not be doing the Mother’s bidding, and brings readers a blast from Loki’s past,
Gillen’s storytelling is fun and funny and rip-at-the-heartstrings all at the same time, which makes him a joy to read. McKelvie’s art combines frequently-unique layouts with subtle and not-so-subtle visual tricks that do much to enhance the story. This is one of the few comics where I will backtrack after the first read and see something visual that blows my mind and adds a new layer to the storytelling.
I’m not entirely sure Goodreads is accurate on what issues this volume includes. I am writing this review based on the monthly comics and not the final collection, which won’t be published for another month or two. Based on the plot itself, breaking at issue 10 as the description claims, is a weird place to end this particular collection, as the team is gearing up for a final confrontation against Mother, and nothing has really been resolved. It feels like there should be another issue included to handle the climax. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter, though. I’ll be around for the next issue regardless.

A lot of the issues I was having with the previous volume were smoothed over in here! I think this story has found its footing and it's actually pretty dang enjoyable! As ever, the characters continue to be some of my favorite (although I wish a couple, like America and Kate, got a little more attention), plus there were a couple new faces introduced who I reallllly enjoy.
I feel like the alien Mother character/arc makes WAY more since now; I can't help but wish we had a little more insight into her motivations earlier on, but better late than never I suppose!

Sorry didn’t enter this the day I read it — a solid second volume that’s fleshing out the character dynamics and upping the stakes in terms of this particular team of Young Avengers. McKelvie does the kind of brilliant artwork with these pages that fans of him & Gillen have come to expect, and it really makes the multiverse possibilities stand out. Heck yeah.

It wasn’t my favorite one I’ve read so far. The comic had a fun approach at the different dimensions. It got pretty hectic at moments, but I could tell this wasn’t as enjoyable to me then the first one was.

This one was a lot of fun and also has a character talking about their bisexuality which was great! Keen to see where this series goes next.

This has a bisexual character which is so interesting. I still love Wiccan. Also that ending.

Exceptional art. I like this group being mature and sexy as what young adults usually are. Noh-Varr being an audiophile is a good idea for a solo series just involving travelling and music. I actually like to see Billy having feelings for Noh-Varr. The tension it'd create between them! Kate being the mature one, the leader, I'd like her to get more plot.

I enjoyed this, but I didn't love it as much as the first volume. The beginning portion dragged a bit, but it does get super exciting towards the middle. I think what makes this series so great is the characters. I've never felt strongly about any comic book character, but then the young avengers came into my life and changed that. THEY GIVE ME LOTS OF FEELINGS. I also really appreciated the unique panels throughout this trade. I like seeing people play with formats that have stayed the same for ages and make them interesting.
