So as a Middle Schooler this was easily in my top 3 Redwall books, but rereading it now as an adult I don't find it nearly as interesting, even compared to the other Redwall books that I've re-read. There are two entire plotlines which are essentially irrelevant (the owls + the exploration of the caverns under the wall) and then the Long Patrol spends the entire book talking about the battle to come, which then only lasts about 10 pages. I had fond memories of this book as being an action-packed Redwall novel filled with thrilling battles and I'm a bit disappointed to have discovered on my reread that my memory was completely off. I still love the world and Jacques' writing style, but I wish I wouldn't have gone back to this specific entry.

This was a very good book but I do think that some of the others in the series were better.

this one gets the award for possibly the most horrifying death cry of the series with rockjaw grang sinking under a horde of vermin gurgling as he coughs out his final battle cry!! (also i only have 7 left to listen to before i have NO MORE NEW REDWALL AUDIOBOOKS and i am UPSET)

I just couldn't get into it as an e-book. The dialogues and the accents were just so difficult.

Timeless fantasy & absolutely emotionally cathartic. Cried at least 5x reading this book and was full of the milk of human kindness afterwards.

This was another fun read in the Redwall series, not my favorite, but really this just proves that a "dud" in this series is still a great book. I found the story to be a little lackluster, partially due to the construction of the book, but also based on the content of what happened. The riddle & quest that I generally love so much wasn't really present, and Redwall's B-plot was a bit contrived. Lady Cregga was a poor leader and left me disappointed, though she was balanced by Russano.

I really enjoyed the merriment and food, as always, and the maintenance of the Abbey was interesting as well! I loved the owls and their little family, as well as the introduction of Russano, though I was dying to hear more on the topic. Violet was again irritating, but that's clearly just her character. I enjoyed the additional details around the Long Patrol, and the hare (not rabbit!) culture surrounding their devotion to Salamandastron and the Badger Lord.

I recommend to all fans of fantasy and/or adventure and more specifically the Redwall series in general - these book make for great adventure reading!
