Not sure how I felt about this one. From the get go, you know it's going to be hard for the author to write a complete story, which way to go, will it be a cliche etc. I felt that the author did a good job of showing the grey and the middle ground reaction and action of the characters. The last chapter was such a random plot twist, not sure how I felt about it

This book is probably every man's nightmare, and
the fact that it is due to another man who lied and wrote in a false allegation about another man due to *vengeance* as a scorned lover is beyond fucked, but also fitting, because cishet men and toxic masculinity will kill us all.

Ola and Michael are a month out from their wedding when "the list" is published on Twitter and only live for 24 hours. Ola works at a feminist magazine called Womxxxn, often sparking conversations around misogyny, toxic masculinity, and the horrors of the patriarchy. Ola sees that Michael is on the list, shown as
a perpetrator of "assault at a Christmas office party"
. She must now reckon with what this means, as Ola is the face of intersectional feminism, and what a bad look to have your fiance on this list of abusive assholes. Major yikes. Michael sifts through his brain to attempt to figure out who could be behind these allegations, and all that he can come up with is a past situationship, Jackie.

I think Yomi Adegoke provided an intriguing story that forces us to think about abuse allegations, especially since there is a very real history of men of color specifically having these lies wielded against them. I think it would have been better executed if
it indeed was a white woman who false accused Michael, so we could actually have a dialogue about how ww specifically have brought such danger to men of color. However, since it was another man, a jealous, spiteful man, I struggle with the messaging and the goal of this work. I sped through it in one afternoon, and was thoroughly engaged. However, I just am left wondering if the message is to not always believe survivors because sometimes, other men make up lies about men who have had affairs with their wives?! I just ... I'm struggling.

I do think the part I related most to was Ola's perspective, in her oscillation between 'should I believe Michael?' or 'where there's smoke, there's fire!' It is an authentic struggle that speaks to our times specifically because of how watchful our social media/the public can be, but also because it's easy to believe survivors when your loved ones aren't being accused. It's harder work to confront the fact that people in your inner circle can be capable of abuse and violence. Yet, it happens all the time. Moms defend their sons. Wives defend their husbands. Daughters defend their dads. Swearing up and down, they could do no wrong, and that survivors are lying. I think that's where the real meat of this book lies, and it felt most fascinating to me.

An interesting concept with 3d characters, i do think that the q+a section with the authors and one of the narrators was very good and added a lot of context to the writing
