The story was amazing and the writing was excellent. It got a little preachy at times (I'm pretty sure we know exactly what the author believes on issues of global warming), but all in all, this was a great read. Well worth the pages or hours of listening.

It now makes me want to re-read Slade House. This world of soul stealing bastards that Mitchell has created is really fascinating.

I would really recommend this book with its interweaving narratives and characters whose lives are connected by a hidden war. Mitchell's writing style is enchanting as he advances the narrative by delving into the thoughts of his characters. My full review here.

Much like Cloud Atlas this book was more of a collection of interweaved novellas. Six parts. Two of the middle pieces I found phenomenally engrossing but unfortunately they petered out without a solid resolution. Two other parts I found average. And the beginning and ending novella portions I thought were subpar. I wasn’t a huge fan of this technique in Cloud Atlas and while I found this book a little better overall; I’m a much bigger fan of his more traditional novels.

One moderately interesting novella, crudely nailed to a bunch of others ranging from mediocre to irritating.

Appreciate and love the diverse perspectives and polyphony of characters, even though the majority were jaded, sexually-frustrated middle-aged men. Creative concept and cool placement of narrators on the periphery. The story goes on forever; this is just a few snapshots.
