National Parks of the USA by Kate Siber

A sturdy hardcover for young armchair adventurers that will hopefully inspire them to explore our national parks! The gorgeous illustrations remind me of Charley Harper's flat style, and on the splash pages for the parks a variety of people are shown, indicating that parks are for everyone!

Not every park gets a feature but there's only so much space, I suppose. Every park is mentioned at least on the region pages, though. I do recall seeing a typo or two (or maybe just word choice where I would've picked something a little different), but overall a good way to pique interest in public lands. I initially bought this as a baby shower gift and then decided to get my own copy!

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

See my blog for some examples of the art in this book. :)

OMG, you guys! This book is just so stunningly beautiful, gorgeous, and lovely that you won't be able to stop reading. You need to soak up all the beauty that this book offers.

This book features a ton of national parks all over the US. From Yosemite to Denali to Death Valley. Most I already heard about, but mostly by name, and thanks to this book I discovered a few new national parks that I definitely need to see more of, so I will be finding maps and photographs real soon through google. But the parks that I already knew were still fun and interesting to read about. To see when it was founded, or to read about phenomenons happening or weather stuff.

The book is separated in several parts, East, Rocky Mountains, Central, Southwest, Alaska, West, Tropics, and then that is again split up in National Parks in those specific parts. Each part gives us a map and points us to several parks or notable events or notable people. And then we get a gorgeous illustration introducing us to a certain park from that area/part, and then another 2 page spread with all that you can find there. Animals, weather, history titbits, about humans living there, grasses/plants, and much more. There are illustrations all over the place and a small bit of text to go with the illustrations. I loved the illustrations, but I have to say that the text was also well written. Not in a boring matter-of-fact way, but in a fun way that really makes you want to know more (and so I have browsed google a few times when I wanted to know more). And I learned quite a few new things from reading this book. Like that sand around coral is generally poop as there is one kind of animal that eats coral and poops it out as sand (ewwww).

It is, as expected from the subject, US-centred, but I had a bit of a laugh at the last note in the book. Yeah, sure, let me just go outside to a national park in the US. Or go out to the mountains (what mountains?), tundra (we don't have that I believe), deserts (um...). Oh, I can visit the beach, though I am sure that is no way as spectacular as those in the US. :P And until someone makes teleportation a thing, I am not going to be able to go to the US/national parks there. A trip to the US isn't cheap. Oh well, there is always google, and we have some national parks here (though not as varied as the US ones are).

The illustrations, oh boy, guys those are just too gorgeous. I just love their style, and I just can't stop looking at them. Even now, after I finished the book, I still am looking back at some pages with big heart-eyes.

All in all, READ THIS ONE! You won't be disappointed. This is one book you need to have in your collection, I know that when I get the chance I will be buying it on Amazon as well. This book needs to be on my shelves.

A wonderful book jam packed with facts and information and bright engaging illustrations. This would be perfect for homeschooling or using to expand your knowledge, I really like how this book was organised with each park having its own double page spread showing its location and lots of details about it and the animals that call it home.

This book is amazing! My kids and both myself and husband absolutely loved this! It had amazing pictures, very informative, and absolutely awesome for those who want to learn about the parks! I can’t wait to re-read with my kids as we travel to visit some (maybe all!) of these places in the future! Absolutely a wonderful book!

'National Parks of the USA' by Kate Siber with illustrations by Chris Turnham is a tour and field guide to some of the natural wonders of the United States.

The book tells the history of how National Parks were first established, then shows the parks by region starting in the East and heading West. Each region shows all the parks, then some of the parks are highlighted. The highlighted parks talk about animals and plants that can be seen as well as types of land formations. Each has a location as well as the founding date of the National Park.

At 112 pages, there are parks that get left out, but it's a good overview, and should leave plenty for the curious to explore. The illustrations drew me to request this for review, and they don't disappoint. I love the full two page illustrations for each featured park and all the thumbnails for animals and plants. This would be a great gift for a young naturalist or for a big car trip to visit one of these great parks.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

3.5 stars. I got this books because we visited several National Parks this summer. My children were so excited and I thought it would be a great introduction. However, of the 6 we visited, she only went into depth about 2. It was a great disappointment and they quickly lost interest. I enjoyed the information but wish more were elaborated on as well.

As someone who loves the outdoors, seeing new parks and learning more about them, this book is absolutely fantastic! With so many detailed photos and fun information, I think this is the perfect way for kids to learn more about our National Parks! This is definitely a book I'll be buying for all the kids in my life to share the love of the parks with them!

I love the art in this book! It's so fun to look at all the pictures in this style of art. Each featured park has a page with an overview and a second scrapbook-type page with info about different flora, fauna and man-made structures in the park. It's a pretty neat way to read about some of the most popular parks.

I was a little disappointed that it didn't include all the parks, instead just focusing on the major ones. Hopefully that would get kids interested enough to learn more about the ones that aren't featured though.

This would be perfect in a 4th grade classroom when we learn about National Parks.

A cute little handbook to the National Parks of the US packaged in an adorable art style. This is aimed at a younger audience, but I found it easy enough to read through.

The book is divided into geographical sections with a map showing the locations of the park. Each section contains a slightly more in-depth look at some of the parks listed.

It isn't meant to be a comprehensive and detailed work of educational material, but I do wish it was a little more detailed for some sections. The chapter on the West Coast for instance mentions black bears and the dangers of leaving out food around them multiple times but doesn't really do so for the East Coast. And, you know, as someone from there, I can promise you we have plenty of black bears. So, in some regards, there is some inconsistency at play.

The font choice is also a little strange. It was hard to read on my computer screen, but I could read it on my phone. It looks nice with the art, but it's sort of an odd choice for a book aimed at a younger audience.

The true delight of this book is the lovely art style covering every page. This is the sort of book you leave sitting out just to flip through to a random page now and then, just to look at the art.
