This is a tightly paced, speculative domestic thrilled that open with Molly hearing an intruder in her house. It has some touches of Annihilation-esque alternate reality science to it, particularly with unworldly flora and fauna (but not a ton!).
Having previously read The Beautiful Bureaucract, I can see where Phillips's skill in writing tight, interior dramas has grown. This novel sets up the stakes very early on and raises them in natural ways. The tension rises and twists wonderfully.
